How many black spheres are on this fixture?
There are hundreds of individual black orbs. The exact count varies slightly per unit, but you can see from the photos the density is high enough to form a solid C letter shape when lit.
Can I hang this in a standard 8-foot ceiling room?
No. The fixture needs 98.4 inches of drop height alone, plus ceiling space above the mounting plate. You need at least a 10-foot ceiling, ideally higher. It's designed for lofts, stairwells, and double-height spaces.
