Before You Order
Dry Indoor Rooms Only — Not for Bathrooms or Outdoors
This fixture is rated IP20, which means dry indoor locations only. It has no protection against moisture of any kind.
Do not install it in a bathroom or shower room, directly above a sink or a hob, on a covered porch, or anywhere outdoors. The shade is fabric over a timber and metal frame: fabric absorbs moisture, water-marks permanently and grows mould, and timber warps and splits in damp air.
LED Bulbs Only
Fabric and timber both sit close to the bulb. A hot incandescent or halogen bulb scorches and yellows fabric from the inside and dries out wood over time.
Fit a cool-running LED only. If you want the Edison filament look, use an LED filament bulb — the same appearance without the heat.
Use a frosted or opal bulb. The shade is open underneath, so a bare filament is visible and glaring from a seated position.
Choosing Your Options
Rod or Chain Suspension
Rod gives a clean, rigid vertical line and will not swing or twist. It is the tidier, more architectural choice, and the one to pick if the pendant hangs somewhere it might be brushed past. Note that a rod is a fixed length in a way a chain is not.
Chain is softer and more traditional, and it is much easier to adjust the height on the day — links can be removed. It is also the better choice for a high ceiling, where a long drop is simpler to achieve with chain.
Tell us your ceiling height when you order and we will confirm the drop available either way.
Patterned or Plain Shade
Plain gives a clean even glow and lets the layered silhouette do all the work — the quieter, more contemporary choice.
Patterned adds surface interest, and the effect changes with the light: a woven or printed pattern reads clearly when the lamp is off, and softens as the light diffuses through it. Please check the product photographs for the current pattern before ordering, and contact us if you would like us to confirm it.
Worth remembering that a pendant is unlit most of the day, so the off state is the one you will live with most.
Choosing a Size
| Size |
Metric |
Suits |
| ⌀19.7″ × H18.9″ |
⌀50 × H48 cm |
A round table for four, a bedroom, or a living area |
| ⌀23.6″ × H19.7″ |
⌀60 × H50 cm |
A table for six, a kitchen island, or a larger room |
Placement
Over a dining table, choose a shade roughly half to two thirds the width of the table, and centre it on the table rather than on the room.
Hang the bottom 30 to 36″ above a surface, and keep at least 7 ft of clear headroom in any walkway.
Both sizes are nearly as tall as they are wide — 18.9 to 19.7″ before any rod or chain. On a standard 8 ft ceiling that takes up a large share of the available drop, so measure before ordering rather than after.
This is a wide fixture meant to work alone rather than in a group. Over a full-size dining table, the larger size is the more common regret-free choice.
Leave ceiling above it. The layered tiers throw their rings of light upward as well as down, so an open ceiling is part of the effect.
What the Light Is Like
Warm and Atmospheric
Fabric absorbs a good deal of light rather than reflecting it, so expect a soft, warm, enveloping glow with the useful light going down through the open bottom. Right over a dining table or in a bedroom; in a working kitchen, pair it with under-cabinet or recessed lighting.
Use 2700–3000K warm white, which brings out the warmth in the white fabric and the red in the walnut. Cool white makes both look grey.

Care
Brush the Fabric, Dry-Cloth the Wood
Dust the shade with a soft brush, a lint roller, or a low-suction vacuum brush. Never use water, damp cloths, or cleaning products on the fabric — it water-marks permanently and white fabric cannot be cleaned back.
Layered tiers mean several upper surfaces collecting dust, and on white fabric that greys the shade from above where nobody is looking. Include the top of each tier a few times a year.
The walnut takes a dry cloth along the grain, with no polish and nothing damp. The gold hardware takes a dry cloth only — keep metal polish away from both the fabric and the wood.
Let the bulb cool before going near the shade, and keep the fixture out of long direct sunlight, which yellows white fabric unevenly.
