Overview

Travertine cylinder with a wood accent cap hanging from a black cord.

The travertine shows natural pitting and variation.

Available as a single pendant or a multi-head cascade that drops up to 157 inches.

That cascade is what this fixture is really for. The multi-head versions are not wider, they are taller — a vertical run of small glowing stone cylinders dropping through open air, which is exactly the shape a stairwell or a double-height entry needs and very little else provides.

Highlights

Yellow Travertine Shade

A natural stone cylinder with visible pores and surface texture. Each piece has unique markings, and no two are identical.

Wood Top Cap

Light wood colour or walnut, sitting on top of the travertine and holding the electrical fitting.

Single or Multi-Head

One pendant, or a cascade of 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, or 15 heads on one cord for tall spaces.

Choosing a Version

Heads Width Total drop Suits
1 ⌀4.3″ 6.7″ tall A hallway, a bedside, a nook, or a group over a counter
3 ⌀7.9″ 59″ (4.9 ft) A 10 ft ceiling or a modest stair opening
5 ⌀11.8″ 78.7″ (6.6 ft) A tall room or a small two-story entry
7 ⌀13.8″ 98.4″ (8.2 ft) A typical two-story stairwell
9 ⌀15.7″ 118″ (9.8 ft) A tall two-story stairwell
11 ⌀17.7″ 138″ (11.5 ft) A three-story or spiral stair
15 ⌀19.7″ 157″ (13.1 ft) The largest — an atrium or a full-height stair

How to Read Those Numbers

The drop is the full height of the fixture from the ceiling to the bottom of the lowest shade. Measure your actual opening, then subtract the canopy and whatever headroom you want below the lowest cylinder. Check the clearance to any intermediate landing as well.

Most two-story drops are 10 to 14 ft, which usually means the seven-head or nine-head version.

Each version comes with either a light wood cap or a walnut cap — same stone, different timber, chosen with the colour option.

Before You Order

Dry Indoor Rooms Only — Not for Bathrooms

IP20, for dry indoor locations. Travertine is a porous natural stone that absorbs moisture and stains permanently, and the timber cap moves and cracks with humidity.

Do not install it in a bathroom or shower room, directly above a sink or hob, on a covered porch, or anywhere outdoors.

Plan a Tall Version With Your Electrician

A cascade of solid stone cylinders carries real weight, and the taller versions carry it a long way below the ceiling. Fix into a joist or a rated ceiling box, never plasterboard alone.

Confirm the weight with us before the ceiling is prepared. A 157″ cascade over a stairwell is usually installed from scaffold or a tower, and is a two-person job.

Integrated LED — What That Means

The light source is built in, so there is nothing to buy, nothing to match, and no bulb visible inside the stone. It cannot be swapped like a bulb, so the fixture is replaced at the end of its life rather than re-lamped.

In practice a quality LED runs for many years of normal use, and on a cascade hanging over a stairwell, never having to reach those fittings again is a genuine advantage.

Fixed at 3000K warm white, which is the right choice for travertine — cool light turns warm stone grey and flat.

Made to Measure

We Will Size It for Your Ceiling

Email service@yyjlxlighting.com with your ceiling height and roughly what you have in mind. Ceiling height plus a photo of the space is enough.

We come back with a light count and cable lengths that fit your ceiling height. Cables are cut to length, wired, and shipped ready to hang.

Worth doing. A stairwell cascade that is six inches too long or too short is very obvious, and it cannot be adjusted after installation.

Care

Never Use Vinegar or Citrus on Travertine

Travertine is a calcium-based stone and acid etches it permanently. Vinegar, lemon juice, and most multi-surface and bathroom sprays leave dull marks that cannot be polished out.

Dust with a dry soft cloth only. The stone is porous, so water left on it leaves dark marks and oily fingerprints soak in. Handle the fixture by the wood cap or the metalwork rather than the stone.

The wood cap takes a dry cloth along the grain, with no polish and no solvents.

Stone is hard but brittle. Take care unpacking and installing a cascade, since a knock against a stair rail chips it permanently.

FAQ

What is the difference between the wood colour and walnut versions?

The travertine shade is the same on both. Only the cap that sits on top differs: light natural wood, or a dark walnut stain. Choose walnut if your room has dark wood floors or furniture, and light wood if your floors and joinery are pale.

Can I use a single Arvo in a hallway, or do I need the cascade?

A single pendant works well on its own in a hallway, a bedside, a nook, or anywhere you want a small accent light. It is 6.7″ tall. If your hallway has 10 ft ceilings or higher and you want a statement, the three-head version at 59″ works well. Smaller rooms suit the single pendant. Please note it is not suitable for a bathroom, since the stone is porous.

How many heads should I get for a two-story stairwell?

Measure the vertical distance from your ceiling to the landing below. The five-head drops 78.7″, the seven-head 98.4″, and the nine-head 118″. Most two-story drops are 10 to 14 ft, so you will likely need the seven-head or nine-head. Confirm clearance to any intermediate landings, and contact us if you would like us to work it out from a photograph.

Will the travertine pits and holes affect the light?

The natural pitting in the travertine is part of the material, not a defect. Light comes out of the open bottom of the shade, which is the warm lit interior you can see in the photographs, and some light also filters through the pores in the stone. These are all natural phenomena, so expect variation between each pendant.

Will my fixture look like the photographs?

Close, but not identical. Travertine is a natural stone, so the pitting, veining, and tone differ from piece to piece, and on a cascade the individual cylinders will not match each other exactly. That is the material behaving as it should, and a run of visibly different stones usually looks better than a matched set.

How bright is it, and can I dim it?

Light through and below stone is soft and atmospheric rather than bright, so treat this as feature and ambient lighting and plan on other light sources for tasks. For the exact wattage and whether your version can be dimmed, contact us before ordering and we will confirm for the size you want.
