The Alven Taper Pendant is a refined expression of natural minimalism.
Crafted from solid wood, the shade features a smooth tapered silhouette that highlights the organic grain patterns and warm tone of the timber. Its sculptural form gently narrows toward the base, creating a focused downward glow ideal for intimate lighting.
That narrowing is doing real work. A tapered opening tightens the beam, so this puts a defined circle of light on the surface below rather than spilling it across the room. It is closer to a spotlight than to a general room light.
Two heights and two timber tones.
Before You Order
Fit LED GU10 Bulbs Only
This takes a GU10 bulb, the twist-and-lock spotlight type. GU10 is still widely sold as halogen, and halogen runs extremely hot.
This shade is solid wood and it is small, so the bulb sits close to the timber. Sustained heat dries wood, darkens it around the socket, and can open cracks along the grain. Use LED GU10 only.
Contact us to confirm the maximum wattage before buying bulbs.
This Is an Accent Light
At 3.9″ across, one of these will not light a room. It is sized for a bedside, a shelf, a stair corner, or a row above a narrow counter.
Over an island or a table, use three or more spaced 24 to 30″ apart. A single one leaves everything around it dark.
Dry Indoor Rooms Only
IP20, for dry indoor locations. Solid timber moves and splits with changes in humidity, so keep this out of bathrooms, away from a hob, and off covered porches.
Features
Solid Timber
Real wood with visible grain, not a printed or veneered finish.
Focused Beam
The tapered opening tightens the light into a defined circle below.
Two Heights
A short version that sits discreetly, and a longer one with more presence.
Choosing a Model
| Model | Dimensions | Reads as |
|---|---|---|
| Model A | ⌀3.9″ × H5.9″ | Compact and quiet, good where the ceiling is low or the fixture should not draw attention |
| Model B | ⌀3.9″ × H9.8″ | Noticeably more elongated, better in a row or where there is height to fill |
Both are the same width; only the height differs. Over a surface, hang the bottom 30 to 36″ above it; in a walkway, keep at least 7 ft of clear headroom underneath. Mixing the two heights in one row is a common and effective look.
Wood Colour or Walnut
Light or Dark
Wood Colour is the paler, natural tone. It sits with oak, ash, white walls, and Scandinavian interiors, and keeps the fixture visually light.
Walnut Colour is deeper and browner. It reads as a darker object against a pale ceiling and pairs with darker furniture, leather, and warmer palettes.
Bulbs
GU10, Not Included
GU10 bulbs push in and twist to lock, rather than screwing in. They are sold everywhere and come in different beam angles.
A narrow beam (around 24°) gives a tight, dramatic pool of light. A wider beam (around 60°) is gentler and more practical over a counter. Pick according to what the light is for.
Warm white at 2700–3000K suits timber. Cool light drains the warmth out of wood and makes it read grey.

Care
Natural Timber Varies
Solid wood is a natural material, so grain, figure, and tone differ from piece to piece and yours will not match the photographs exactly. The colour will mellow slightly over the years, which is normal and not a fault.
Wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry straight away. Do not soak it, and avoid solvents and abrasive cleaners.
Keep it out of strong direct sunlight, which fades timber unevenly.
