Indulge in the timeless elegance of our Ayla Paper Cube Pendant Lamp.
Crafted from ribbed washi paper, its soft square shape emits a warm, calming glow. The perfect blend of tradition and minimalism, ideal for creating a cozy and artfully crafted space.
Paper does something no other shade material manages: the whole surface becomes the light. There is no bright opening and no dark body, just a softly glowing volume with no visible source and no glare from any angle — which is why a paper lantern is comfortable to sit beside in a way most pendants are not.
The ribbing is what keeps it from looking flat. Each fold catches the light slightly differently, so the faces have a fine grain across them rather than reading as blank white panels, and the square edges stay crisp.
Elevate your home with the quiet elegance of this modern yet classic design.

Made by Hand
Purchase Instructions
This product undergoes a meticulous hand-bonding process using paper and glue. As a result, you may notice minor traces of glue along the edge of the lampshade.
Please be aware that this occurrence is considered normal and does not constitute a quality issue.
It is also the evidence that the shade was assembled by a person rather than pressed out by a machine — the same reason no two are identical.
Features
Ribbed Washi Paper
A mulberry-fibre paper shade where the whole surface glows, with no hot spot and no glare.
Soft Square Form
A cube with gently softened edges — architectural, but never hard.
Standard Socket
E26 or E27, hardwired — use the bulb you prefer and replace it for life.
Before You Order
LED Bulbs Only — This Shade Is Paper
The shade is hand-bonded paper, and the bulb sits inside it. This is the most heat-sensitive kind of shade there is: an incandescent, halogen or real filament bulb scorches, yellows and embrittles paper, and that damage cannot be undone or cleaned off.
Fit a cool-running LED, and keep the wattage modest. For the Edison look, use an LED filament bulb — the same appearance without the heat.
Use a frosted or opal bulb too. Paper is translucent, so a clear filament shows through as a bright line inside the cube and spoils the even glow you bought it for.
Dry Indoor Rooms Only
IP20 — suitable for indoor use where it cannot be exposed to moisture. Paper absorbs damp, cockles out of shape, stains, and cannot be dried back flat. Steam alone is enough to soften the bonded seams.
Not for bathrooms, not directly above a sink or hob, and not for covered porches or anywhere outdoors.
Keep it out of long direct sunlight as well, which yellows white paper permanently.
Choosing a Size
| Size | Dimensions | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| 33X | W13″ × H13″ | A bedside, an entry, a corner, or a row over a counter |
| 45X | W17.7″ × H17.7″ | A dining table or a living room — enough presence to stand alone |
Placement
Both are true cubes, as tall as they are wide, so the fixture takes up as much of your drop as a much larger-looking shade would. Add its full height to the cable when you work out the hanging point.
Hang the bottom 30 to 36″ above a surface, and keep at least 7 ft of clear headroom in any walkway.
Over a dining table the 17.7″ is usually the right call; the 13″ is better in pairs or threes, spaced 24 to 30″ apart, where a row of glowing cubes looks far better than one small one alone.
A paper lantern lights the room in every direction, not just downwards, so give it space around it and let it glow. It is beautiful at the bottom of a stairwell or in a corner where a solid shade would go dark.

Installation and Care
Installation
Hardwired ceiling installation is required. Installation by a licensed electrician is recommended.
Handle the shade by its metal frame and fittings rather than the paper faces, which dent easily under a fingertip.
A Soft Brush, and Nothing Else
Dust with a very soft brush or a hairdryer on cool, held away from the surface. Nothing else is safe on paper.
Never use water, a damp cloth, or any cleaning product — a single drop leaves a permanent ring, and rubbing tears the fibre. A lint roller is too aggressive for paper, and a vacuum nozzle can pull a face out of shape.
Dust settles on the upper face of the cube, where it is lit from behind and greys the whole panel. Include it a few times a year.
Let the bulb cool completely before going near the shade.
