Carved wood, LED spotlights, sculptural warmth.
The Axis is a linear wooden pendant where the material itself becomes the light source. Precision-carved geometric recesses are cut along the body, each housing a warm LED spotlight that shines downward through the void.
Carving the light into the timber is what makes this different from a wooden bar with fittings screwed underneath. Each recess acts as its own small shade, setting the source back inside the wood so you see a lit opening rather than a glaring lamp, and the inner faces of the cut glow warm as the light passes them.
The result is both a functional task light — ideal for dining tables, kitchen islands, and workspaces — and an object of quiet sculptural interest.
Suspended by discreet cables from a minimalist canopy. Available in three lengths and three finishes: Wood Color, Walnut Color, and Black.
Features
Carved Geometric Recesses
Precision-carved voids along the wooden body, each housing a downward LED spotlight.
Natural Wood Body
Real wood in three finishes — the carved surface reads as sculpture even when unlit.
Three Lengths
99 / 118 / 145 cm — sized for compact to long dining tables and kitchen islands.
Choosing a Length
| Size | Dimensions | Power |
|---|---|---|
| S — 99 cm | L47.2″ × H7.3″ (L99 × H15 cm) | ~35W |
| M — 118 cm | L55.1″ × H7.3″ (L118 × H15 cm) | ~50W |
| L — 145 cm | L62.9″ × H7.3″ (L145 × H15 cm) | ~58W |
This One Genuinely Lights the Table
At 35 to 58W of LED, the Axis is one of the few decorative pendants that works as real task lighting. Over a kitchen island you can expect to chop, read and work under it, not just admire it.
All three are only 7.3″ tall, so almost all of your drop is cable and the fixture sits comfortably under a standard 8 ft ceiling despite the length.
Placement
Over a dining table or island, choose a fixture roughly half to two thirds the length of the surface, and centre it on the table rather than on the room. Even the S size is nearly four feet long, so measure before choosing.
Hang the bottom 30 to 36″ above the surface, and keep at least 7 ft of clear headroom in any walkway.
A fixture over five feet long shows a tilt from right across the room. Use a spirit level, adjust both cables, and sight along it from the doorway before the final tighten.
Because the light comes from recesses that aim straight down, align it along the length of the table. Set square to it, half the pool falls on the floor.
Contact us to confirm the cable drop and whether it can be extended for a high ceiling.
Body Finish
Three Finishes, Three Effects
Wood Color — light natural wood, warm and Japandi-friendly. The palest option, and the one where the carved recesses glow most, because pale timber bounces the light back out of the cut.
Walnut Color — deep espresso brown, rich and mid-century. The grain shows most here, and the contrast between dark timber and lit recess is at its sharpest.
Black — matte black, bold and contemporary. Black absorbs rather than reflects, so the body disappears and you see a floating line of light points. The most graphic choice, and the least warm.
Wood is a natural material: grain and tone vary from piece to piece, so a timber finish will not match the photographs exactly.
With or Without Gemstones
Each finish is offered with gemstones or without, as decorative inlays set into the body alongside the carved recesses.
The gemstone version is not described or photographed in detail on this page yet. Please contact us before ordering and we will confirm the stone type, the colour, how many are set, and where they sit — so you know exactly which version you are choosing.
Colour Temperature and Dimming
Select at Time of Order — It Cannot Be Changed Later
The LED is integrated and fixed at manufacture. That keeps every spotlight along the bar identical in colour for the life of the fixture, which separate bulbs never manage, but it also means the choice you make at checkout is permanent.
Warm Light is the default, on a standard wall switch with no dimmer required.
Triac Warm Dimming gives the same warm tone with smooth stepless dimming. A Triac dimmer switch is required and is not included — confirm with your electrician that the switch you have is Triac (leading-edge) before ordering.
On a fixture this bright, dimming is worth considering: 58W over a dining table is excellent for working and a lot for a long dinner.
Other colour temperatures (4000K Neutral, 6000K Cool) and additional dimming configurations are available as custom orders. Contact our support team and we will reply within 24 hours.
Before You Order
Dry Indoor Rooms Only
An indoor fixture for dry locations. Solid timber warps and cracks with humidity, and over five feet of carved wood any movement shows along the whole length.
Not for bathrooms, not directly above a sink or hob, and not for covered porches or anywhere outdoors.
Check the Weight Before the Ceiling Is Prepared
This is a solid timber bar up to five feet long hanging from two cable points, and the weight is not published yet. Contact us before your electrician prepares the ceiling — both fixing points want a joist or a rated box, not plasterboard alone.

Installation and Care
Installation
Hardwired ceiling installation is required. Installation by a licensed electrician is recommended.
Dry Cloth Along the Grain, Brush the Recesses
Dust the timber with a soft dry cloth following the grain, and use a soft brush inside the carved recesses where a cloth cannot reach. No polish, no solvents, and nothing damp — water raises the grain and marks bare timber permanently.
The recesses are the part that matters: dust inside a lit opening is backlit and shows immediately, and it dulls the output as it builds. Include them a few times a year.
Over a kitchen island, airborne cooking grease settles into the carving. Dust it regularly rather than trying to clean it out later.
Switch the fixture off and let it cool before cleaning.
