Before You Order
This Is a Downlight, Not a Room Light
The shade is solid painted aluminium, so no light passes through it. All of the light goes straight down in a defined pool, and the ceiling and walls stay dark.
That is exactly right over an island, a table, or a desk, where you want the surface lit. It is the wrong choice as the only light in a living room or bedroom, where it will leave the corners in shadow. Pair it with lamps or downlights if it is the main fixture.
Use an LED, and Keep the Wattage Down
Metal conducts heat. With a filament or halogen bulb, the shade itself gets hot enough to burn a hand, and sustained heat discolours the painted finish from the inside, which shows most on the pale colours.
A cool-running LED avoids both. Contact us to confirm the maximum wattage before buying bulbs.

Over a table or counter, hang the bottom 30 to 36″ above the surface; in a walkway, keep at least 7 ft of clear headroom underneath. Because the light is directional, hanging it lower gives a tighter, brighter pool and hanging it higher spreads it wider and softer. Group multiples 24 to 30″ apart.
Choosing a Colour
The Shade Is the Whole Design
There is no glass or fabric here, so the colour is the entire visual statement. Unlit, it is a solid coloured object against your ceiling for most of the day — worth considering as much as how it looks switched on.
White and Grey disappear into a pale ceiling and keep the room quiet. Black reads as a graphic silhouette and anchors a room. Green and Pink are the ones people notice, so they work best in threes over an island, or as a single deliberate accent.

Painted Aluminium Marks Easily
Wipe with a soft dry cloth, or a barely damp one followed by drying. No abrasive cleaners, no scouring pads, and no solvents — a painted aluminium surface scratches and dulls permanently, and the marks show badly on the matte colours.
Let it cool before you touch it. Over a kitchen island, wipe it regularly; airborne grease dulls a matte finish faster than it dulls glass.
