Overview
Alternatively looking like a teardrop shape or the silhouette of a classic Edison lightbulb, Alva then adds a twist all its own.
Offering a lively gradient-effect LED glow, the spiraling pendant comes in either a hard-wire version with a ceiling canopy or a plug-in cord hanging set.
The spiral is the whole idea. Because the surface winds around itself rather than enclosing the bulb evenly, the light leaks out along the seam and the shade is brighter on one edge than the other. That is what gives it the gradient rather than a flat glow.
It is a small, tall shape, so it suits being hung in a row or a cluster where the twist reads from several angles at once.
Two sizes, in white.
Before You Order
Tell Us Which Version You Need
This comes as either a hard-wired version with a ceiling canopy or a plug-in cord set, but that choice is not currently a selectable option on this page.
Contact us with your order to specify which one you want, and to confirm the cord length. The two are wired completely differently and cannot be swapped after the fact.
Fit an LED Bulb, Nothing Else
The shade is polymer. Never fit an incandescent, halogen, or Edison filament bulb. Polymer yellows with sustained heat and can soften and distort, and a twisted form like this shows any warping immediately.
The 40W maximum is a limit, not a target. A 40W-equivalent LED draws around 5W and runs cool. If you want the Edison filament look the shape suggests, use an LED filament bulb.
It Does Not Dim
This fixture is not dimmable. Wiring it to a dimmer switch will cause flicker and buzzing and can shorten its life. Put it on a normal switch.
Dry Indoor Rooms Only
For dry indoor locations. Not for bathrooms, not directly above a sink or hob, and not for covered porches or anywhere outdoors.
Features
Spiral Form
A twist that makes the shade read differently from every angle in the room.
Gradient Glow
Light escapes along the seam, so the shade shades from bright to soft rather than glowing flat.
Two Wiring Options
Hard-wired with a canopy, or a plug-in cord set for renters and rooms with no ceiling point.
Choosing a Size
| Size | Dimensions | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Small | ⌀7.8″ × H13.7″ (20 × 35 cm) | A bedside or a hallway, or a row of three over an island |
| Large | ⌀9.4″ × H16.5″ (24 × 42 cm) | A stair corner, or a pair over a kitchen island or breakfast bar |
Both sizes are accents rather than room lights. Over a surface, hang the bottom 30 to 36″ above it and space multiples 24 to 30″ apart; in a walkway, keep at least 7 ft of clear headroom underneath.
Bulbs
E26 or E27, Not Included
The socket takes a standard E26 bulb in the US and Canada, or E27 in Europe, the UK, and Australia.
Warm white at 2700–3000K suits the white shade and keeps the gradient soft. Cool white through white polymer looks clinical.
If you hang several, buy all the bulbs at once and identical. Mismatched colour temperature is obvious across a row and reads as a fault.

Care
Keep White Polymer Out of the Sun
Dust with a dry soft cloth, or a barely damp one followed by drying. Avoid solvents and abrasive cleaners, which haze and dull a painted polymer surface permanently.
Strong direct sunlight yellows white polymer over time, so think twice about hanging this directly in front of a large south-facing window.
